Title I, Part A Distinguished Schools

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators honors from each state at the National ESEA Conference.  Texas may nominate two schools annually for this national recognition.

2019–2020 Selection Criteria

The state's nominee for the 2019-2020 Distinguished Performance Award met the following criteria:

  • Title I, Part A campus in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019;
  • Met Standard in state accountability system in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, and an “A” Rating in 2018-2019;
  • 85% or more low income* in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019;
  • 75% or more at-risk in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019;
  • Reading and Math** met system safeguards on all evaluated groups in 2016-2017;
  • Reading and Math** met academic achievement target on all evaluated groups in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019
  • Graduation Rate*** (on campuses with grade 12) 90% in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019; and
  • Distinction Designation: Yes for Reading and Math in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019.

The state’s nominee for the 2019-2020 Distinguished Progress Award met the following criteria:

  • Title I, Part A campus in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019;
  • Met Standard in state accountability system in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, and an “A” Rating in 2018-2019;
  • 70% or more low income* in 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019;
  • Reading and Math** met system safeguards on all evaluated groups in 2016-2017;
  • Reading and Math** met academic achievement target on all evaluated groups in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019;
  • Distinction Designation: Student Progress=No for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018; and
  • Distinction Designation: Student Progress=Yes for 2018-2019.

*Percent Low Income from the SC5000 of the Consolidated Federal Grant Application

**Minimum size requirement of 25 students tested across all grades

***Minimum size requirement of 10 students for the 4- and 5-year completion rate denominators.

Exclusions applied to both lists:

  • Removed Title I campuses that were non-rated paired campuses.
  • Removed campuses on the 2018-2019 Public Education Grant (PEG) list.
