Foster Care & Student Success

Foster Care & Student Success, housed in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Highly Mobile and At-Risk Unit in the Office of Special Populations & Student Supports, maintains resources and information to advance the education of students impacted by foster care. The resources and materials provide guidance related to the unique circumstances surrounding students who are in the foster care system and attend Texas public schools.

Foster Care & Education Summit 2024

In partnership with the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, the Children's Commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, will conduct the Foster Care and Education Summit. This training aims to provide guidance, resource tips, and tools to assist local education agencies and child welfare organizations with addressing the educational needs and requirements of students in foster care, as required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).Ìý

Registration is now open. Please use this to reserve your spot for the summit. We are excited to share new information with you. This summit will be for two days. There will be intentional time for learning new skills and strategies for working with students in foster care.Ìý

State Office Hours

The purpose of foster care office hours is to provide the state with an opportunity to have a conversation about support for students in foster care. Topics of discussion will center on questions, concerns, scenarios, and effective practices to support the learning of students in foster care. Please register on the links below.Ìý
